STEAM Power WV Grant

Students worked to integrate arts with STEM disciplines in their curriculum. Students used landscaping techniques to create a welcoming front entrance to the school. They received direction from a local architect and professional landscapers in direction of designing a safe, visibly pleasing front entrance area. They incorporated math skills to calculate hill incline, science skills to assess habitat loss and soil quality, and art/technology skills to produce computerized plans, as well as artistic renditions of the plans.

GW Hydrophonics 2019 9

Another phase of the plan involved expanding the space available for the hydroponics class. The expansion of the hydroponics indoor growing area has allowed these students to grow additional fresh produce, which has been included on the salad bar during lunches. Students were so interested in the three-week introductory hydroponics class during the 2018-2019 school year that we began a full year hydroponics class this school year.
