Attendance Policy

The greatest contribution that you can make to the GW Band is faithful attendance at rehearsals and perfomances.Attendance is take at every rehearsal and performance and constitutes a portion of your grade. You must understand that your attendance is vital to the success of the organization, and individual absences impact every member of the group. You will be given a calendar that covers August through December, and another one that covers January through June. Please use these calendars to plan for band activities.

If an emergency situation arises and you must be absent, please contact the director prior to the absence if at all possible. It is extremely important that you limit your absences to emergency situations.

NEVER skip a band function- rehearsal, performace, or meeting of any kind. Skipping sends a strong message that you do not want to be part of the organization and will be dealt with accordingly.

Marks of Dedication

1. BE ON TIME! ( 10 minutes early is on time, "on time" is LATE)

2. Attend EVERY rehearsal and performance.

3. Be ready in all aspects-warmed up, instrument mechanically set, all equipment and music at the right place at the right time, and uniform in TOP condition.

4. Bring a pencil to every rehearsal.

5. Maintain proper rehearsal descipline. Idle talk in rehearsal is not acceptable. Talking in rehearsal does more to stand in the way of progress than anything else and will be dealt with in a severe manner.

6. Listen to your conductor and interperet as the conductor wishes.

7. Mark your music- do NOT rely on your memory. Treat print music you are issued with great care.

8. Listen constantly! Always ajust pitch, balance, blend, and tone quality for the good of the ensemble!

9. Be ready for the downbeat and all entrances in your music.

10. Always attempt to play correctly. The day you can't get better is the day you start getting WORSE!

11. Practice your music on your own between rehearsals and strive to improve your playing.

12. Treat your equipment and music with great care-always keep your intrument in excellent playing condition.

TO BE EARLY IS TO BE ON TIME
TO BE ON TIME IS TO BE LATE
TO BE LATE IS UNACCEPTABLE!

DISCIPLINE
Being in the right place
At the right time
With the right equipment
and the right ATTITUDE!
